houses smell quote from Breatrix Potter: A Life in Nature

Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature - Linda Lear

'I wonder why houses smell so different,' she wrote after a visit there. 'On thinking of a place the first recollection is the smell and the amount of light.'

I absolutely love how Beatrix Potter really uses her senses, how her mind uses them in so much of her life. I can't recall ever having a smell coinside with the memory of any home, and now wonder about if I had been neglecting to use more of my senses in casual situations. I can recall placements of furniture, level of warmth, and just an overall general feel of a place. I am very early on in this book (for a second go), and am once again finding myself intrigued by this lovely lady.
